We think Talia from Bridesmaids Only is one smart lass. We quiz the go-to girl for bridesmaids about the latest trends, the myth of the ugly bridesmaids dress, and of course her own wedding.
What was the aha moment that led you to start Bridesmaids Only? When I couldn’t find affordable bridesmaids dresses when I was getting married. There wasn’t one shop where you could go and find everything you needed for your bridesmaids. They were always just an afterthought!
What were the challenges? In starting a business, there are always going to be challenges. Probably balancing my work life and personal life would be the biggest!
Where do you find your pieces? Most of our gowns and accessories come from New York. There is a big market for bridesmaid dresses in the US, so they have such an amazing selection. Something for everyone!
What are the big trends? There are a couple of big trends at the moment! One of them is the one shoulder gown, this style tends to suit everyone and is big on the red carpet at the moment! Another trend is having different style of dresses in the same colour. This is perfect for bigger bridal parties and bridal parties with girls who are all different shapes and sizes. This way, they can wear a style that suits them, and that they’re comfortable wearing. The last trend we’re seeing coming through is the (as well call it) ‘Kardashian Look’ – the all white bridal party. Not sure how long this one will last, but it’s growing on me!
What do all Brides look for when dressing their friends? They look for dresses that compliment their bridal gown, as well as a dress that their bridesmaids feel comfortable in. Even though the stereotype of a Bridezilla is wanting her bridesmaids to look awful, all our brides want their bridesmaids to look and feel beautiful (and to be able to wear their dresses again!)
So then do you think the old cliché of the hideous bridesmaids dress is just a myth? Yes!
What should Brides consider when looking for bridesmaids outfits? I think they should try and look for a style that is timeless. You don’t want to look back at your wedding photos and think “what was I thinking!?”. Also consider the venue and theme of the wedding – this will help you choose the colour!
What would you redo about your own wedding? I actually get asked this a lot by my Brides! Because we only started the business after my own wedding I didn’t have any of the resources I do now! I do look at other peoples wedding photos and think “oh, that could have been nice!” But in the end, I don’t think I would change a thing.
