Need Motivation?

Have you ever felt like one week you are ON FIRE – kicking goals, sticking to your routine, eating well, training hard, happy as Larry (whomever that is) only to find that the week after – all motivation has dissipated? You are constantly tired, lack energy and the thought of exercise makes you nauseous. Maintaining motivation is one challenging obstacle –  for all of us.

A recent meta-analysis study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that technically all weight loss and exercise plans can be successful, but what makes all the difference is actually how motivated the individual remains.

HYPOXI understand this all too well, so here are 4 ways we remain motivated.

New workout gear

Have you ever worn brand new workout gear and automatically felt fit and healthy even if you haven’t embarked on exercise yet? There is a name for this,  Northwestern researchers Hajo Adam and Adam Galinsky coined the term “enclothed cognition.” It describes the mental changes that we undergo when we wear certain clothing. The theory goes that if you dress like a doctor, you’ll pay more attention; if you dress like an athlete, you’ll be more likely to engage in physical activity.

With a range of brands offering activewear from high-end to affordable replica’s – make sure you add this to the top of the Christmas list from Santa!

Choose exercise you actually like

There are thousands of exercises out there, each one providing a different benefit. But the key to ensuring you commit to an exercise routine? Don’t select something because it is simply ‘good for you’ or it’s ‘on-trend’. The way to stick to your workout routine is to ensure you like it.  If you don’t want to do it, you will ALWAYS make an excuse to skip it. Start by thinking about things you like to do – do you like walking? Then look for low impact exercise that are gentle on your body. Do you like dancing? Then look into various forms of dance classes around your area or at your gym. There really are so many options, so get researching and choose what you like!

Schedule your workout

Jacinta Campbell sticks to her exercise routine by scheduling her workouts in her diary, just like any other appointment. And she treats them that way. At the beginning of each week, include your workouts on your calendar and ensure you take these appointments seriously.

HYPOXI makes this easy for you as you have to schedule your sessions. We receive great feedback that this is an excellent way for our clients to stick to their exercise routine and remain on task.

Train with a friend!

In a University of Southern California study, people said they had more fun and enjoyed working out more when they did it with a friend. It not only gives them the social aspect to exercise, AND helps the time pass faster!

There is also a level of accountability when you train with a friend. Not wanting to let your friend or exercise partner down can be a great motivator to show up. And on those days you don’t feel up to exercising, your friend can provide a pep talk to ensure you get the motivation you need.

Give your friend a free session valued at $138 and you will also get one to the same value!
