Stuck in a diet rut?

Take a look at Hypoxi’s tried and tested low carb snacking options.

Peanut Butter and Celery

This snack strikes a nostalgic and nutritional chord:  classic, convenient, low carb and retro chic.

With only 8 grams of carbs per serve and being perfectly portable to take to the office- they are a simple and delicious morning snack offering.

Cottage Cheese

One cup of low fat cottage cheese is a skinny 8g carbohydrates and 30g protein. Not bad when you can dress it up with one teaspoon of cinnamon, which has been shown to improve your body’s ability to handle carbohydrates.

Walnuts

Nutritionists have been going nuts on nuts for quite some time but some nuts are actually quite carb dense. While this does not put them in the banned food list – walnuts have far fewer carbs than almonds, peanuts, pistachios, and cashews. In addition they are higher in antioxidants than any other nut. Fourteen walnut halves contain only 4 grams of carbohydrates, half of that coming from fiber. 30 grams of walnuts also contains 10 percent of your daily intake of magnesium and 2 1/2 grams of healthy omega-3 fats. Just make sure you know what a portion is so you don’t go overboard with your handful.

Low Fat Laughing Cow Cheese

Who would have thought that childhood snacks were nutritional powerhouses? Grab a square or two of string cheese and you are looking at a mere 25 calories per wedge, a 1 gram smidgen of fat and less than a gram of carbs. Eat them on their own with veggie crudités for additional fibre and nutrients without the crap!

Low Carb Protein Bars

While protein bars cop a lot of flak for their ‘artificial’ ingredients, no one can deny their convenience when pushed for snack options. While we don’t consume them religiously-having a few bars in the office draw can help steer you away from the lolly jar at work. When they come in an array of flavors, anything from Rocky Road to Double Chocolate Fudge – there is sure to be a brand that will satisfy even the worst of your chocolate cravings. As a rule of thumb, try to go for the smaller bars with less than 5g of carbs per serving.
